The house job year moves faster than your memory does.

The drug you looked up at 2am. The regimen your registrar rattled off in the corridor. The case that taught you something you have never seen written down anywhere. By March, most of it is gone, or it is on the back of a discharge slip in a coat you stopped wearing.

A note on colour

The paper is a warm cream, not white. Like any uncoated stock it moves with the light — warmer under a lamp, cooler by a window, and different again on whichever screen you are reading this on. The photographs here are shot flat and true to the printed pages, but expect it to look a little different once it is on your own desk. That is the paper doing what paper does, not a fault.

Why it exists

I made this because I lost my own house job year.

Not the hours. Those I remember. I mean the actual knowledge — the drugs, the doses, the small corrections a consultant made once that I never wrote down. I kept telling myself I would organise it later. Later never came, and by the time I was preparing for the next step I was relearning things I had already been taught, on the ward, by patients.

Write in it for a year, and you arrive at your FCPS prep with a drug bank, a case file, and a research list that are yours. That is the whole idea.

If something in it does not work for how you practise, tell me. The next edition is better because someone said so.
